Skylert

To improve our notification process for our student families and district personnel, we have chosen to the “Skylert Notification” system. Because the Skylert System is connected to our Student Software, in the future, you will only have to give your contact information to the school offices one time, not twice on 2 different forms.

In order to insure that every parent/legal guardian is notified by the Skylert System, please fill out the district forms for each parent(s) or guardian(s). If you have questions regarding the completion of the forms, please contact either Nancy Waters or Gina Settles at the District Office at 217-942-5314.

As in the past, our most frequent use will likely be for closing school due to inclement weather. When calling school off due to inclement conditions, I will send the notification before 9 p.m. when possible. If we can’t make a determination until morning, I will try to make the call around 5 a.m. The system then dials and e-mails all participants within seconds, which makes it unnecessary to make time consuming individual phone calls or sit by the radio or TV waiting. Within a matter of a couple of minutes, all parents and employees are informed and able to plan for the emergency. All notifications generated by the School District Office will show a phone number of 217-942-5373. Please program your cell phone to accept calls from this number.

When inclement weather strikes during the school day and it is necessary to close school early, parents will be able to receive the emergency message at the phone and email locations they request, thus, ending the need to listen to the radio or receive the information by word of mouth. I believe from past experience that you, as parents, will continue to be won over by the convenience and reliability of this new system. The system also allows us to broadcast non-emergency messages through phone calls and e-mails. We anticipate using both methods to communicate information about events in our schools. As we become more versed in the additional flexibility of this new system, we foresee utilizing the system for more than non-emergency uses.

As an additional convenience to our student families and district personnel whenever inclement weather strikes, we will be notifying our local NBC station, KSDK, Channel 5.
